Day 7: The University of Ruhuna

Up at 4:30am and off on the 6:15am train to Colombo.

Dharmasena, (a university driver) met us there and we headed south for the University of Ruhuna.

We had the opportunity to meet with the Deans of Science and Fisheries and with the Vice Chancellor. Our host is Professor Nalaka Ranasinghe who is also a geochemist. The campus is lush with peacocks and nearby rivers have crocodiles.

We were treated to a breathtaking view at dinner at a new Naval compound guest facility. We spent the day discussing plans for caving on Friday, and my teaching schedule. Thivanka is working hard on final edits to her first accepted manuscript (as first author).

Colombo station... Thivanka calls the driver.

The view from our guest house.

The new Marine Fisheries Building is one of three scheduled for completing within two years to also house the Oceanography and Limnology Departments. They are designed by Geoffrey Bawa who designed the Sri Lankan  parliament buildings.
