Our day at the university was dedicated to setting up a sampling strategy and tomorrow at 6 am we head for our first field deployments where we place the first set of samplers in the dry zone. We are setting up a one year air/water sampling network for organic contaminants.
During this morning’s walk we stopped at a small temple and were called to by a woman on a terrace signaling us to remove our shoes. The woman kept an observant eye on us and as we exited she called to us to come upstairs. Without knowing we had happened on a Buddhist temple that housed three FEMALE monks. We were kindly greeted and I was given a “triple blessing”. There are 4000 female monks in Sri Lanka and 30 000 male monks.
Our hosts were kind and exuded a lovely energy. We then headed back and finished our jog to find a vast breakfast spread, care of Thivanka's mother.

Thivanka's father went to their village home and brought back some jambu fruit. They are crisp and delicious and bear a resemblance to starfruit in taste. |
Today's breakfast spread... includes...from top to bottom, dhal with spinach curry, white rice, beet currie, bananas, boiled eggs, avocados asmi, kokis and rulun aluwa |
